Mark your calendars for our Annual Benefit Ride for our local Vinton Shellsburg United Special Olympics Team! All PROCEEDS REMAIN WITH OUR LOCAL VSU TEAM!!!Don't have a Motorcycle, No Problem. Vinton Public Library Read-Aloud Book Club August 13, 1:30 p.m.

The Vinton Public Library offers a Read-Aloud Book Club at the Lutheran Home Assisted Living Center in Vinton. Benton County Conservation presents "Cicadas!" August 13 10:00 a.m.

Benton County Conservation will be presenting "Cicadas!" at the Vinton Public LIbrary. Join us on Tuesday, August 13 beginning at 10:00 a.m. to learn all about cicades. The library is located at 510 2nd Ave. in Vinton. 

Strawberry Storytime with the Bookmobile August 12 & 16

Join the Vinton Public Library for a special Strawberry Storytime with the Bookmobile. The library will be providing strawberries, cool whip and Nilla wafers while we read a portion of the book, "Strawberry Girl," by Lois Lenski and other fun stories. Thanks to the Lois Lenski Covey Foundation, our library received a $1,000 grant to help us purchase new books for our bicycle-powered bookmobile! Lois Lenski is the author of the classic children's book 'Strawberry Girl.

Benton County Conservation: The Wild World of Wolves & Bears August 8

On Thursday, August 8th beginning at 6:00 pm, Benton County Conservation will hold a presentation at the Vinton Public Library. Swing by the library for a howling good time learning about the wild wolves and bears of the upper Midwest. They will also share information about their upcoming bus trip to the Northwoods of Ely, Minnesota. The trip date will be September 26th-29th.

Former NFL Player AJ Harmon to be in Brandon

"When you walk with God, the impossible becomes possible!" AJ Harmon a former NFL football player with quite a lengthy history of playing the game, will be in Brandon on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.He will be sharing his story at this free event at the Brandon Community Center, .802 Main St. Brandon.

Way back to the beginning at the Center Point Museum, Sunday, August 18

Retired State Geologist of Iowa, Ray Anderson will give a free presentation entitled, “The Geological History of Linn County: From the Origin of the Earth to Today.” The event will be held at the Center Point Depot Museum on Sunday, August 18, at 2:00 p.m.Anderson will talk about the formation of the Earth and continents and how glaciers sculpted our Iowa landscape.

Twisty the Fly will be featured book August 6th at the library

1st Annual Benton County Historical Society Expo - August 10, 10:00 am-4:00 pm

The Benton County Historical Society is hosting the First Annual Benton County Historical Society Expo on Saturday, August 10th at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School from 10:00am – 4:00pm! There will be 46 vendors, special guests and speakers throughout the day, including four special guests! Admission is $5 and you have access to all vendors, special guests and speakers! Opal & Hazel’s Wood Fired Pizza will be serving lunch, for an additional cost, from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the parking lot.

Campfire Talk: Remarkable Reptiles August 16

Join the Campfire Talk about Remarkable Reptiles on August 16, 7:30-8:00 p.m. at Rodgers Park in the Enclosed Shelter.The event is FREE! Join the Naturalist Intern for a presentation about reptiles native to Iowa. You will have the opportunity to meet a few of the animal ambassadors. There is seating available but you are welcome to bring your own camp chair and/or blanket.
